If you're buying the company then you're buying everything out and it ceases to exist. The shareholders get paid off and go on their merry way. This is a standard buyout.

If you're just buying the property, an asset, then the payment goes to the AQA coffers and it continues to exist and the shareholders continue to own their shares.   Mining companies buy and sell properties to each other all the time although typically such properties aren't worth much. In this case any such payout would have to be very substantial.
