Comparison of AQN and ALAWhen I took the Canadian Securities Course a long time ago, one of the assignments was to do a comparative analysis of two stocks in the same sector. In that regard, I would like to do a brief comparative analysis of AQN and ALA, demonstrating that ALA is a more attractive buy.
First, ALA has a more attractive current dividend yield of 5.8% vs. only 4.4% for AQN. Second, ALA has a greater upside potential according to analysts than does AQN. According to Marketbeat, the analysts' average price target for ALA is $20.23 vs. today's close of $16.45 or a potential increase of 23%. On the other hand, AQN has an average price target of $15.96US or $21.00CDN vs. today's close of $18.56 for an appreciation potential of only 13%. Third, comparing the most recent earnings report of both companies, AQN had earnings of $0.03 per share for the second quarter missing expectations while ALA had earnings of $0.05 per share beatings earnings estimates. I could probably go on (and maybe I will in a later post) but I think this comparison so far makes ALA the obvious best choice to buy.
