Why FTS is my Favourite Utility Stock

The Investor Homepage sums it up nicely.

Of course, no company / management is infallible and future dividends from any company are not guaranteed, but these guys have just about the best track record I've seen when it comes to providing a steadily rising dividend which has handily outpaced inflation over the past number of years and is expecting to raise the dividend another 4-6% per year to 2027, which won't cover the current 7% inflation rate, but will again if the BOC can attain it's goal of reducing inflation to around 2%.

Or you can buy a Gic with just under a 5% yield without risk. Keyera is over 6 %...

What's the term of that GIC? Is it cashable at any time or locked-in until maturity? If held outside a tax-sheltered account, you'll pay more income tax on the interest than you will on dividends. GICs have their place in a diversified portfolio, so one can own both if they so desire even though, as you stated, stocks are riskier investments. KEY is a midstream company, not a utility, so ...more

next hike GIC's will be paying 5% and the 4.5% is cashable and length 18 months  right now
