RE:RE:RE:S&P/TSX Canadian Indices Changes - AR is outDon't fret too much Marky1. It's not positive news, however it shouldn't come as unexpected with the poor performance, volitility, and dwindling market cap of AR. Basically AR was removed from the global gold subindex set by S&P Dow Jones, which is the benchmark used by index etfs and portfolio managers that look to track it or compare the relative performance of their funds to it. AR is still a component of the TSX Composite. Barring catastrophe, it won't be delisted, which I believe is what you're worried about. Anyway, long story short, there may be continued short-term pressure on AR as index etfs and managers that look to track the index try to liquidate their positions in AR. That said, I'm sure a lot of that has already happened. The fundamentals are still intact for AR, and if you're a value investor, this looks like more and more of a bargain as the SP depreciates. Technically, it`s a disaster, but a good piece of news or two can easily swing the momentum in the positive direction. At the end of the day, all that really matters when it comes to an investment is its intrinsic value; i.e, its book value. The stock clearly isn't liked by investors/traders right now, but again, barring asset writedowns, or significant changes in costs or revenues going forward, AR is worth what its worth, and that's far north of where it trades today.
