Couple of questions.

Does anyone have the date that Gran Columbia initiated it's first dividend and was it 1% all at once.
I am pretty sure we are into the seasonal strength for gold. Think it is Sept to Jan.

The board announced the dividend Aug 13 th , to be paid Oct.15th . It is slightly less than 1% annually so divide by 4 .  In my opinion that is why that small amount brought little interest . I still contend that the dividend for a company gushing cash needs to be much higher as all mining companies  should be. It is one reason most main stream investors won`t bother looking at them ...more

Thanks Wayned52.  We should find out one way or another when Q results are announced. A nice problem to have.  What to do with all that extra cash.  Another option could be to increase their position in Caldas.

>>  Another option could be to increase their position in Caldas.   terrible choice.  they have enough for control, which is all they need. any more defeats the primary motive for spinning it off.

Your right. Guess it will be dividend increase, share buy back or what?
Comment by menoalittle on Oct 08, 2020 2:39pm
don't recall the exact amount, but they'll need to set aside about $30 million to call what'll remain of the gold notes next April.  So, doubt there will be much aside from (hoefully) a small dividend increase (a minimal cost, but starts a trend rolling) and more share buyback (yeah.... more buyback.  undoubtedly the best use of additional cash over and above the funds needed ...more

hopefully (no "hoes" 'round here... lol)

that $30 mil is not large when they are making over usd $100 mil free cash per year. they have plenty of cash to do both raise dividend and buy back shares at the same time. that 1% dividend is only paying out less than cdn $4 mil cash. they can easily double and triple that dividend and the payout would still be a small % of their free cash.
Comment by menoalittle on Oct 08, 2020 4:59pm
raising the dividend lifts the stock price, making the buyback for fewer shares. thus, putting more effort now into the buyback (at these low prices) will have more long term effect rather than raising the dividend too quickly. slow, but steady, raises is the best way to handle the dividends.
Comment by menoalittle on Oct 08, 2020 5:07pm
dividend could probably easily be doubled every 2nd or 3rd quarter for the next 4 years... .06   .12  .24 .48 .96 (in 3 years ?) That's a good target. a buck a share in 3 years... lol.

Don't mix cash from operating activities and free cash flow . The last one was only 13 456 000 usd for the first half 2020.. gcm had to pay 42.6 mil in h1 in taxes So at best 60 mil  usd free cash with gold @ 1900 until year end .  Div at 5 % is totally unrealistic and stupid. Waste of money of which goverment will take a second time . Keep in mind the more gcm makes money more the ...more

not mixing the 2. first half had a lot lower gold price and lower production than usual with covid and they used cash to buy shares of subsiduary. second half has both higher production and much higher gold price without needing to pay a lot of taxes. second half is always when they make most of their cash. with $1900 gold price going forward i think they are making $100 mil free cash per year ...more

look at the numbers you just gave. in h1 they had 13.4 mil free cash and paid 42.6 mil in taxes. in h2 they pay little to no tax so 13.4 + 42.6 = 56 mil free cash (when there is both lower production and much lower gold price). so in h2 it only stands to reason that they would have higher free cash than that 56 mil, higher than the at best 60 mil free cash that you are assuming. doesn't that ...more

100 mil usd fcf for the all year measn 86 mil for h2 or 43 mil usd each q from now .  I bet this impossible .  1) Operationals : there is no new mine . Just a possible better revenue from marmato one ( + 3/ 5 koz ) .the expansion is not complete . Needs a year . ( nothing to do with marmato 2 for 2023 )  2) corporate income tax . 31 % in colombia . Gcm has probably the hihgest N ...more

no, read what i said, i said 100 mil fcf per year going FORWARD with 1900 gold price, not looking backward with much lower gold price that was in q1 and q2, which had 1500 and 1700 instead of 1900 gold price. you need to get your facts straightened out. they do have a new mine at segovia coming online in the 4th quarter called carla. it is starting at 5 g/t production but still adds oz. they have ...more

Brioche , in April 2017  Gran Colombia was in a law suite with the government of Colombia for $700 million under the Canada - Colombia free trade agreement .  Although Donald Trump has shown over and over again that trade agreements mean nothing , you would think Gran Colombia could use this enormous amount of money owed to negotiate some form of tax breaks. I have to add they have been ...more

Eh , you have good memory. I have forgotten this drama. In all honesty , i don't know . The Small miners occupied the upper part of marmato , and gcm has threatened to launch a lawsuit against the colombian state after a judge had confirmed the right to the miners to poursue .  As gcm has never made comments on that issue , i guess all is fine for them waiting for a better moment to act  ...more

It is a pile of money . Maybe I`ll ask the head man. I don`t like to be a pest too often. He is very busy but has replied 100% of the time .

Best to leave sleeping dogs lie.  The company is doing well and the future looks good.

Well Twiggy no problem . I won`t share the reply with you .

Brioche , just to clear up some of the tax issue . Yes GCM like all Colombian miners pays a pretty hefty tax rate . Around 25%on earnings  . But unlike other miners there they own the properties they work on and so don`t pay royalties . Serafino bought this company from the government in the bad old days when they couldn`t give it away . This give them quite a leg up . In the end they would ...more
