RE:Insider Buying

RE:Insider BuyingGreat Question Retired.

I think you are looking at entirely different motivators here.  Insiders tend to be looking out for themselves and certainly were not buying when oil was $85.00 and as some said "Going to 90.00 or even $100.00".  The talking heads are often trying tp manipulate the market for their own ends so when they want to sell the pound the desk as to wht a "GREAT" buying opportunity it might be.  While I absolutely agree even the talking heads do not have a crystal ball, they do, (in theory anyway), have better research resoources than you and I so probably have a better idea where things are heading in the short term (although some might debate that).  I really don't think it is any coincidence that some of these folks were pounding the table trying to convince mom and pop investors to buy oil stocks when oil was $85.00 and now only a few weeks later oil is down over 20%.  It is not beyond imagining that they were actually quietly selling then and taking profits (bearing in mind that you can only sell if someone wants to buy so its in their best interest to creat a bit of a buying frenzy) with the aim to pick up more when oil started back down again.

Given the fall in oil prices - (today down over $3.00 in premarket) It would not surprise me to see more insiders pick up stock.   I fully agree that many oil stocks will do well in the long run (ARX, CPG TOU) as they are all getting their respective houses in order but many of these talking heads are making fortunes playing the dips and that is the song and dance we see on BNN.  I have a colleague who has done fabuously well doing the exact opposite of what some of the most vocal and "knowledgeable" talking heads suggest - they say buy...he shorts, they say sell, he buys.  I just don't have the B#lls that she does to take those risks.

In short, all I am suggesting is that the motivation for buying and selling for insiders is different than that of the talking heads and the Talking Heads often have quite alterior motives for their recommendations so need to be taken with a grain of salt.  I would love to be a fly o the wall and hear what they are tellling their "preferred investors" (ie the 0.5%) and compare it to what they spout on BNN.
