Speak of the Devil

Speak of the Devil

US natural gas futures jumped 8% to $3/MMBtu on Friday, the highest in almost five weeks due to a jump in US LNG exports and forecasts for higher heating demand in two weeks than previously expected. The total amount of gas flowing to US LNG export plants increased to 13.4 bcfd so far in March from 12.8 bcfd in February, compared with a monthly record of 12.9 bcfd in March 2022. Looking ahead, US gas demand is likely to ease next week on expectations that power generators would burn less gas to produce electricity, before surging to 127.4 bcfd in two weeks when the weather turns colder and heating demand picks up. For the week, the US benchmark advanced 16%, the most since the week ended July 22, 2022.
