A tale of 3 stocks: ARX, POU, KEL and NVA

At the end of 2023 aqnd the begining of 2024 ARX was getting pummeled by mhp and plf for poor capital allocation and generally a poor business model.  They highly touted the other three names in the headline and pretty much bashed as ARX as a future lagger.

After 6 months into 2024 those predictions do not seem to have come true and ARX really lags none of them with the exception of NVA which is outpacing ARX on a 6 month basis that even the non-paying dividend excuse does not make up for.  If you expand out YOY then it becomes a bit of different story but you could cherry pick any dates to make any of them look slightly better than others.  The fact is that ARX is keeping pace with NVA and lagging would be pretty strong and does not aptly describe the positioning of the two stocks.

It does if you are comparing them to KEL however.  While POU and ARX seem to be neck in neck in a YTD ROI comparisson, KEL is lagging all 3 names YTD and by a pretty good margin too.  It in fact lags so much that mhp and plf seem to exclusively post on that stock's board and under such illustrious titles as "WATCHING PAINT DRY".   They have even seemed to come to laugerheads over the name with plf eluding to himself as a "bag" holder.

I wonder if in the 6 months since trashing ARX and then watching it keep pace with the best of their comparisons and outpacing their worst and presumably only current holding in the sector, (mhp has admittidly sold out of NVA (makes sense as it is making ATHs now.  Sorry not sorry p I could not resist)), if they have had any change of heart with regards to the viability of ARX in 2024.  I know there were a few, "sell in May and go away" promotors right here on this board and it will only be known if that was good advice  in the coming months.

So far, personally, I am quite happy with the resilience the stock price has shown in the face of very challenging commodity price fluctuations and a troubling tax concern.

As I have said before, it is an easy hold for me.

GLTA ARX BULLS and Happy Canada Day to all!

Well said, Quint, and happy belated Canada Day to you as well! In my opinion, the number one failing of poor investors is the inability to admit when they are wrong and change course. It shows a stubbornness and bias that can only lead to losses, bitterness and anger. If you ask me, it looks good on them. Remember these chestnuts? Inexperienced management, run by accountants, boring company ...more

Nuvista hitting 52 Week Highs, just a matter of time before ARX gets back up to $26, Cardinal, well will have to continue to collect the Drips to break even.

Oddly enough CJ wasn't one of the 3 ...I mean 4 stocks LOL IDK Rus my ACB on CJ is very low and I'm yielding about 12% or 1% per month.  Break even isn't something I worry about over there.  Funny but my risky stocks are doing fine and my bluechip dividend payers are getting gut punched.  So much for risk V reward. I also don't worry over here at ARX....easy hold.  ...more
