In the hope that I do not confuse anybody I would never the less like to add a few things: The game you described is not only working with short positions if you mean by shorts those who sell shares they do not own. It is my guess that day traders also pushing it down in order to buy again and sell after they recovered. What I meant by positive signs is that people do not panick as much as they did and if nobody would sell at a low price this game would have played out. I do realise that we are not there yet but the low volume indicates in my opinion that we are on the way.
