At long last, BlackBerry’s much anticipated Q10 smartphone will finally be available for Canadians to purchase on May 1.

The Q10 is the Waterloo, Ont.-based smartphone manufacturer’s second BlackBerry 10 device, and the first to incorporate the company’s renowned tactile QWERTY keyboard.

“We’re seeing strong momentum behind BlackBerry 10 from carriers, customers and partners around the world,” said BlackBerry’s managing director for Canada, Andrew MacLeod, in a statement. “The BlackBerry Q10 will accelerate this trend.”

The BlackBerry Q10 was first announced alongside the Waterloo, Ont.-based manufacturer’s Z10 touchscreen device in January and is regarded as the crucial second chapter in BlackBerry’s most recent comeback effort.

Rogers, Telus and Bell subscribers can purchase the device for $199 on a three-year contract. Pre-orders began earlier this month.

Telus customers can also buy the Q10, which will be available in black, outright without a contract for $700. Rogers, meanwhile, is exclusively offering the Q10 in white – as well as black – and selling the phone outright for a slightly lower price of $650.

The BlackBerry Q10 will also be available on Virgin Mobile, Fido, Koodo and Sasktel, and available in select retail locations, including Best Buy, Future Shop, TBooth Wireless, The Source, Walmart and WIRELESSWAVE.

The company also said it expects the Q10 will be available in the U.S. by the end of May and that all four major U.S. carriers will carry the device.

The touchscreen Z10 launched in the U.S. last month.
