So NO, I was not and am not a pastor. No one in my extended family is a pastor.
I should add that I've watched another couple of videos by/about Christopher Hedges in the past couple of months. He's a professional "doom and gloomer," a modern incarnation of all the popular preachers preaching "The End of the World" since religion was invented. In every religion, the goal of this kind of preaching is to make people mend their ways. Russia loves him and gives him his pulpit on Russia Today because of his relentless focus on everything that's wrong with the USA.
Points of agreement with Hedges:
-- That many other countries, especially the USA, have committed war crimes since the end of WW2.
-- That Russia's invasion of Ukraine is also a war crime. Hedges: "The invasion of Ukraine, under post-Nuremberg laws, is a criminal war of aggression." (Salon.com)
A major point of disagreement:
-- That NATO aggression "duped" Putin into starting his incredibly stupid war. These arguments utterly fail to understand why so many countries in Europe
1. wanted to be free of Communist control by the end of the 20th century
and
2. want to become free or to stay free -- today -- from control by Putin and his gang of kleptocrats.
Start with the fact that Putin kills a lot of his opponents (often by poison) as part of his ordinary daily round of business. He kills off journalists, dissidents, business rivals, and politicians at home and abroad. Yet somehow we're supposed to believe he's been provoked into doing this by American aggression.
