The Vultures Are Circling Overhead

I have no sympathy for hedge funds who depend so heavily on short selling. There is nothing noble about short selling. If people who are long in stocks are called investors, then short sellers are anti investors. They profit from the destruction of investor capital. I say good for Reddit in making life difficult for these hedge funds that contribute nothing to the economy, and instead are vultures profiting from the death of the capital which is the life blood of the economy.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY SHARES ARE NOW SHORT. ANY ONE KNOW? I ALSO THINK A FINAnCIAL DIRECTOR who sells out and doesn't support the company should be gone. Monday would be a good day. Unless he buys them back

Probably some irony in that Hedge funds started out with the same goals as WSB and yet they have the audacity to claim foul if not done their way. There's no guarantee in shorting either and perhaps WSB went in too far too fast. They can focus on BB if they like at a nice slower pace...lol.

I have never shorted a stock. Having said that I would not want short selling to stop because if you make a bad investment and your company is going to crash and the hole markets knows it. There is no one left to bail you out except the guy who wants to go short.  ps. I own shares of BB because I think they are undervalued when compared to companies like Snowflake. All IMO!! always DYODD ...more

VENMan: if you use the same logic then you should be happy when someone like WSB runs the price up even if in your mind you've made a bad investment. Unless you short I guess.

If you're a value investor and the price of your investment goes up you should sell when you feel it's over valued. It's not right if you're broker prevents you from selling at higher prices or puts limiots on what how much you can buy and sell, that's wrong and should be stopped. Why would anyone stay in an investment that they honestly feel is overvalued? sell

Selling a stock you own is not the same a Short Selling.

Who do you think is going to want to commit to shares of GME at $325, $425 or $625,  Warren Buffet or the Gal with the balls to go short? The Gal who's short is a Buyer at Lower prices because she has to be. She has to buy and fill her order. She hopes at some lower price that is still way over valued like say $150, or $75 or $50. At least she gives a bag holder an out if he wants it. The ...more

VENMan: I didn't  understand when you said the whole market knows it's a bad investment and it's going to crash, why anyone would buy a stock even if short sold. Didn't make sense to me.
Comment by VENMan on Jan 30, 2021 12:48pm
Hedgetrimmer, when you buy the stock you think it's a good investment. Say you buy at $20. Then a year after you got in the company comes out with sad news say like when BreX said they actually had no gold. When BreX was at $400 a share and they came out with bad news saying they had no gold who bought shares at $200? You know who those Short! From $400 down to $200 Short Sellers made 100 ...more

Appreciate it VENMan but I will always maintain that I the owner, should be the one who dictates what I do, not a borrower.

I agree with you HT, as the owner you should be the one who dictates what you do. There is a huge problem with brokers not letting you buy or sell as you wish. It's right up there with not letting one speak as they wish right. Controlling buys and sells or controlling speach is all bad right Dems but short selling is another issue.

You haven't explained why you think short selling has any benefits to the economy.
