taking my mind away from markets to watch these superb and beautiful Beijing opening ceremonies....Daaaamn the Chinese sure do put up a truly spectacular and amazing event. Loved the flame enshrined inside a snowflake overlooking the stadium. Great to see they beautify an occasion that should not be politicized.

Sports should not be politicized, but unfortunately they always have been, and likely always will be. I'm all for patriotism and cheering on athletes from your own country, and I've always cheered on great efforts from athletes, no matter where they are from. But politics and ideologies should have no role in sports. The 1936 Olympics was a disgrace with the way Jesse Owens was treated

Many athletes at O games are amateurs but let's not forget they're hoping to cash in with their performances. In the future VR world you'll be able to ski jump with Eddie the Eagle or ice dance and cuddle with Katerina Witt. They get paid, you don't but who cares. I think the PGA has a problem though. Their big stars opting out of events for paid appearances, like in Saudi Arabia

Truly was a beautiful, elegant yet somehow simple and as one commentator said, Intimate, opening for the Olympics. Let's all hope there are no ugly diversions during these games anywhere around the world. Go Canada!.
