They started developing their own automotive operating system vw.os and hence CARIAD. If it was safe and easy to develop all automotive softwares using open source Linux, why the partnership with QNX? The answer is QNX Nutrino is must have base OS for any automotive software which requires security and cross platform functionality. Even Tesla will need it to stay ahead of competition.
