The Lockheed L1011 Tristar was a superior plane but it had less range and more maintenance cost than the less expensive DC10. Rolls Royce was facing bankruptcy and delayed the program.

The logic that orthers had failures in the past and the CSERIES will also fail is pure BS.

Airbus was in the same position when they started.
