RE:Boeing/Embraer deal faces political backlashI wish Bombardier would have been able to get a similar financial offer from Airbus but there is a huge difference between Embraer and Bombardier. Embraer's finances were in much better shape than Bombatrdier's financial situation, last October. Unless some of you already forgot, Bombardier almost went broke because of the CSeries and the future was not much brigther as they had much difficulties selling the CSeries. Hene the situation was not going to get any better for the future unless they managed to enter into a JV with either Boeing and Airbus.
At the time there was very bad blood between Bombardier and Boeing after Boeing was able to get a 300% surtax on the price of planes sold in the US which cold have seriously impacted on the sales of CSeries planes to Delta. Obviously, Bombardier was not about to discuss a JV with Boeing after having been stabbed in the back by them.
Consequently, Bombardier was cut between a rock and a hard place. They had only two options, continue alone at a huge financial risk or enter into an alliance with Airbus. I think they took the lesser of two evils.
Embraer was never in that situation and do not have to enter into a JV with Boeing. The population of Brazil knows it and this is why I think they do not like it. I also think there will be serious political debates before a final decision is made.
I am certainly not convinced as yet that the JV between Embraer and Boeing is going to happen unless there are huge benefits for Brazil to go ahead with it.
