Pinnacle Airlines adds passengers, jets
Pinnacle Airlines has released its traffic numbers for July and the year-to-date period, showing across-the-board increases in revenue passenger miles, available seat miles and the company's load factor.
Last month Pinnacle registered 288.9 million revenue passenger miles, an increase of 59% compared to 181.7 million in the same period last year. A revenue passenger mile is one paying passenger flown one mile.
Available seat miles -- which refers to capacity -- grew by 55.1%, to 376.1 million from 242.5 million in July 2003.
Because paid miles flown grew by more than capacity, the airline's load factor -- the percentage of seats filled -- rose to 76.8% from 74.9%.
During July, Pinnacle accepted delivery of two Canadair regional jets, bringing the total aircraft received since the first of the year to 27.
Pinnacle Airlines is based in Memphis, where the company employs about 1,000 people out of 2,200 company-wide. The airline serves as a regional partner for Northwest Airlines, which maintains a hub in Memphis and employs 2,200 people here.
Pinnacle registered 1.5 billion revenue passenger miles year-to-date, an increase of 67% compared to 914.8 million in the same period last year.
Year-to-date, the airline increased its available seat miles by 57%, to 2.2 billion from 1.4 billion in the year-to-date period of 2003.
The airline's load factor rose to 70% from 65.8% in the year-to-date period.
As to the number of passengers traveled, in July it was 620,440, an increase of 41.4%. In the year-to-date period 3.5 million passengers flew Pinnacle, an increase of 44.5%.
