Bombardier stocks were up back then because they stretched the original challenger jet and made it into regional jet.  Same time the US airlines went through major deregulations on route control and regional airlines/flying took off.  Bombardier RJ were decades ahead of Fokker and Embraer was trying to get in. Now Bombardier is again in the sweet spot.  Market for bizz jet is

If memory serves me right , the bomber estimated having  $ 37 Billion annual sales ... that's big boy territory , I know it fell apart quickly , but imagine having those numbers for 10 years ... when those numbers came out there was no talk about all the internal problems , just pie-in-the-sky dreams ... this will definitely be one of the greatest comeback stories in Canadian business
