OLD MAN THINKING

Increasing interest rates have NEVER stoped inflation. Its old man thinking. Old school. and the head of setting rates IS OLD..same in the US

For us OLD people that were working in the late 70s/early 80s, I can guarantee you that the only thing that got inflation under control was sky high interest rates. Our mortgage rate in the early 80s was 20%. I think Karl has some really valid points that inflation is harder to tame than most people think and that's under normal circumstances. Toss in the brain-dead liberals throwing money ...more

Hey Sarge, that's about the best summary I've seen of challenges we face as Canadians in the fight against inflation.  And to think, it comes from someone of the OLDer generation to boot . . . will wonders never cease!

Increasing interest rates has always slowed inflation (no one wants it stopped). Since Canada's appears to be down to 2.8% and the only thing they did was cut interest rates.... https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/unambiguously-good-inflation-slows-in-february-as-price-growth-unexpectedly-eases-1.2048706 It looks like the old man made the right call even if it was a little late.
