Believe it or not the US is the largest IMPORTER of Canadian oil. What a dumb country they are.
Point is the US exports crude while at the same time imports crude. The US imports steel from Canada while at the same time exports to us. Same for autos, chickens, etc. There's nothing wierd or "dumb" about it.
Up until the moment Obama nixed Keystone XL there wasn't a single person in Alberta talking about supplying crude to eastern Canada. It was only after Obama screwed us that all of a sudden everyone started waving the Canadian flag and ranting about how crazy it was to import crude in the east while we have such an abundance in the west. Reality is, it doesn't really matter. Being an integrated North American market for crude (because that is what we wanted) it matters little whether the east coast is supplied from the south or the west. North America will still be a net importer of crude. The only real benefit to Canadian producers of an Energy East ppl would be the relatively small amount of access to tidewater for overseas export - not the Eastern Canada market.
