Nationalization of BNK assets on the way ?

In a statement the government said it reserved
"all of its options and is aware of its obligation to preserve the long-term integrity of its treasured national asset"

"
the natural resources of Albania are the patrimony of the people and should not be mismanaged or used as threats against the nation"

This look like some kind of the beginning of a nationalization. Pretty scary...
Should our asset be nationalized, can we can get back some money or shareholders are left with nothing ?
In argentina Kirchner nationalized a foreign private oil company 2 years ago. The gov bought the company at a massive discount. I hope the same will not happen to us.

That is really scary. Shouldn't the Canadian government take any action to sort things out?

Nationalization is a way of life in third world.  Bring in western money and technology, steal the asset for peanuts once it is operating well , then mismanagement it back into the crapper.  Not saying that is happening here but they are certainly hinting it.  Russia, kazahstan, many African countries, Venezuela, Mongolia Argentina,  and many others all have a rich history of ...more

IMO I doubt Albania would nationalize considering that they are trying to join the EU and doing that will reflect poorly on them with respect to the EU business community. From previous posts I understand the government is considering selling Albetrol, so how can they want to maybe sell one and nationalize the other doesn't make sense. Nationalizing over a tax dispute as an excuse is ...more

There will be no nationaliatization. Albania has signed an investor protection agreement with Canada. https://canadaalbaniabusinesscouncil.ca/index.php?/site/flash_news/november_27_2013_-_tirex_supports_canada_and_albania_foreign_investor_prote https://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/fipa-apie/fipa-apie.aspx?lang=eng

The is a possible problem with the information you previded LoudIskander,  Good work finding this however.. .   The problem might be is that the agreement  apparently has never been ratified by either country, its not in force from what I can see.  . . They are not registered as a signatory, only that they have concluded negotiations and await ratification and therefore there ...more

I dunno. It doesn't look much like that's worked out well for TIREX. Investors have been fleeing that stock since the beginning practically. It's on it's wat to BK

They "bought" the company just so that it would have the air of legitimacy. It was a commie dictatorship grab. How did that work out for Argentina? They are still looking like a third-world country with little investment. Argentina ranks 4th amongst the South American countries in terms of FDI stock (after Brazil, Chile and Colombia) and 6th in terms of FDI influx. The three main ...more
