neither a troll nor a shorter.  have held btb for a long time still have a large position.   the dist. helps fund my retirement.  as rates rise so will the payout ratio.  there is reason for concern - the whole reit sector not only btb. unlikely that the current downtrend is over.    it wasnt that long ago btb cut the dist.  btb is well run but dont expect ...more

Interesting rebuttal, perplexed. I think the issue is the relationship between share price (equity) and dividend (essentially interest on investment) ....and no, imho, they are not related. Yes the REIT sector is taking some pounding but fundamentally btb is stable as opposed to something like northwest. As long as they continue to manage appropriately the sp might come down even more but the ...more

i appreciate your post, Smokey.  totally agree that SP is set by the market based on future prospects whereas the dist. for btb is determined by its "profit" and shouldnt change for a well run reit just because the SP is down.   the problem i see is that interest rates have a leveraged effect on "profit".  way back when i owned some apartments, ~50% of the rents ...more

What's your thought on relatively low trading volumes? A few weeks ago I would have said there was a deliberate attempt to manipulate the sp as if this whole investing environment was a game of monopoly. But, as it was driven down it has more recently made a modest recovery over the last couple of sessions. Individual trading transactions of 100 or 200 shares seems to smack of "a game ...more
