Putin will not risk his Energy Cash Cow for a bankrupt Ukraine or even the Donbass region.....I think its all about Energy(Gas) negotiations and a proposed agreement Ukraine 's non Nato status remains unchanged. ...

I would agree to your position if you give me a credile answer 1) Why did he intervene in Syria 2) Why did he intervene in Abkhazia 3) Why did he intervene in Transnistria , South Ossetia, and Artsakh 4) Why did he seize Crimea He is aware China will buy suppirt and gas from him even if European exports stop. Is it possible for US/Europe to sanction China without China dumping US$ soveriegn bond ...more

Maybe I can offer my two cents Manitoba... really enjoy your posts and.content by the way.   1 national security.  Syria is not as far as you think from southern Russia.  Russia has dealt with extremists in the past.  ISIS was literally miles away from taking Damascus.  It was Russian intervention that prevented a black flag flying over ...more

Hi Ottawa    Very valid points and Thank You .  Similarly Russia will invade Ukraine citing security reasons and NATO threats/ threats to Russian Civilians in Donbass .They need a conduit to Kaliningrad too ;) .
