I did look into more of the history behind Yellow Knife and can imagine what had to be overcome post WW II. At that time the Trans Canada highway was a two lane gravel road just east of Calgary, Yellow Knife must have been dismal.
I also looked into the communities near the CBR Greenstone Belt claim and did find that the population of Cambridge Bay is around 1500 people, with Gjoa Haven having over 1000. Both communities are within 200 Km's of CBR 's claim as far as I could estimate.
At this point I'm assuming that the "heavy lifting" of non perishable goods and equipment occurs by sea during the open water season. This makes the logistics of exploration and possible mine operations far more economical than I initially thought.
