Drip it for now

Thanks for the positive and informative posts. Negative posts are just ignored and I don't banter, seems to be enough of that in these forums.  I feel that my dividend paying strategy at my young age, I get a few decent cheques so if I have the opportunity to use a drip, esp one that gives the +3%, why not.  Some of my other holdings have had drips in the past, but a lot of them have been suspended. I'm only a small fish and only going to be getting around 8 shares extra per month, but over a year or 2 I feel with the world slowly reopening, we hopefully will see even just 3-5% upside over the next 6 months.  Time will tell, but I like this play in my portfolio.

That is a good plan; especially while young! Just a thought to consider. Chemtrade is paying just under 9% "at today's price" which is great for monthly reinvestment. There will come a time (probably within two years) that the stock price will be over $10 as it was two years ago... Which is great price appreciation; yet not so good for reinvestment value of your monthly dividends.  ...more

Magic27, you are being played for a fool here big time.  Gord from LaLaland forgot to tell you that most of his money is actually invested in EIT.UN and their distributions are sustainable whereas Chemtrade's are not! As for Gord stating that the unit price will be north of $10 within two years, simply ask him what he is basing that assumption on? Two years ago, Chemtrade's balance ...more

Again fairly new to this holding, and the overall stock market game.  After a fair amount of reading/research I decided that if at my age, I could take what moneys I have earned and saved over the last few years, and invest it with mostly solid established company's.  I'm not certain I am long on these, I have thoughts and have already done it with a couple holdings, to get out ...more

MAGIC 27  Good Plan on your part...Based on your factor( age)  Note:.We Dripped everything  including CHE.un in our RRSP's  until we were forced @ 71 to convert into RRIF's & at that point we were forced to make annual taxable withdrawals...So CASH is required from these accounts to make the payment transfers required by the CRA  ( tax man). Currently we only ...more

Hey, Red  We were led to believe that  any transfer of shares are consider a Sell from the RRIF & then a new market Buy order is issued as they are  moved into your CASH trading accounts. . We really like to tightly control  all our OWN Sells & Buys  (pricing etc) no matter what accounts get involved..   Stand to be corrected on this subject & more ...more

Hey TimeBuilder__I am VERY CERTAIN about this__I have been doing several Years now of Transfer IN KIND transactions from my RRIF to my Margin account at BMO Investorline ALL that happens Tax Wise is that I get the USUAL Tax Slip from BMO showing how much I took out of my RRIF__which would be THE SAME had I sold something first and then taken out the CASH__there are NO Capital Gain considerations  ...more

Thanks Red ... We understand all of that ..Taxation etc.   :>)    BUT our control is also noted on the pricing structure  of the NEW shares being issued by our broker ...  Maybe we want to BUY something other than the transferred shares !!  How does that work out for you during the transaction process ? We now just like to trim a few over weighted ...more
