Global News...Canada's stock market 2nd worst in the world You are poorer than you think. During the last 10 years, Canada's TSX index has been the second worst performing equity market, just ahead of Venezuela. The base year of 2008 was the peak of the Chinese super cycle in commodities, with oil trading over $100, so it is a bit misleading. One thing is for sure, the Canadian equity market's performance has been abysmal. Banks have been excellent performers during the last decade, but elsewhere, the highest TSX market cap companies have been pumped full of lead. Nortel, Research in Motion, Potashcorp, Suncor and Valeant round out the high flying birds. Canadian dysfunction on the energy file continues to weigh on the markets. With Canadian real estate prices peaking, the declining home piggy bank may also start to weigh on the Canadian psych. The beatings will continue until morale improves.
