Alternate Forum Update

Alternate Forum Update
Hello all, just wanted to post some of the progress made working on the new bulletin board. The board itself is set up, I added a modern CSS, and the sidebar is complete (rules, extra information etc...) At this stage I will be inviting respected members of Stockhouse to join the moderation team if they so wish. Currently the subreddit is set to private as it is still in development. As soon as we have a solid moderation team and I deem the board suitable to be opened to the public, we will open up the board and I will give another update here. Expect it to be open to the public by week end. This new board will get rid of many, many issues Stockhouse faces. It will get rid of spam all together, organize content according to quality, and allow the banning out users directly.

For now, I would like to invite Stockcoach1, Marcel7, argentia77, Slinger14, bullchart, adamchess, and Sunshine7 to be moderators. If anybody feels I have missed anybody, or if anybody else with a good track record of posting on Stockhouse would like to join the mod team, please let me know over PM and I will consider.

For those I did invite, here are the instructions if you wish to accept the invitation:

1.  Create an account on Reddit. Preferably something similar to your Stockhouse username. This is the site for which the bulletin board will be run on. It is safe, easy to use, and organized.

2. Send me a PM on Stockhouse with your Reddit username. This will allow me to confirm your identity and send you an invitation on Reddit.

3. Wait for a message on Reddit from Azures_ that asks you to join the moderation team of the subreddit (/r/CXR) (A mail icon should be red in the top right if you have an unread notification)

4. Accept the invitation to moderate the subreddit. From there on out, you can communicate with me over PM on Reddit.

5. If you have any difficulties with any of the steps please contact me over Stockhouse PM.

Best Regards, Azures

Azures wrote: Great thesis SC1, makes a lot of sense. I'm in the process of making another alternate bulletin board on a reliable site which never goes down like Stockhouse. It is also better than Stockhouse in many ways as it allows the creator of the bulletin board to have moderator power, and give moderator power to those he chooses. (ie. Removing spam, banning users, etc...) It allows users to post links or simply text posts like these called threads. Other users can then comment on these link posts or text posts with their thoughts, and reply to other users in the thread. There is what is called an "upvote" and "downvote" button on each post and reply, where other users can choose either. The content in a thread can get sorted according to the posts with the most amount of positive votes (upvotes) to the posts with the most amount of negative votes (downvotes). This acts in a way that the worthwhile content gets "voted" to the top of a thread, while the garbage gets put at the bottom of the thread. It is much more organized as it allows users to see exactly who replied to what directly, no need for "RE: or quoting, as its a direct reply. There is private messaging, and a system called "karma". This system works by tallying the overall amount of points a user receives on his comments and posts (1 upvote = 1 point, 1 downvote= -1 point). You can click on a users profile to see every post they have made, and their karma (which is a good indicator of the quality of the content they post). The user face is very simplistic and easy to get a hang of. Overall it is better in almost every way. Direct permissions over the content of the BB, a good content organizing system, a more organized interface, and it's up virtually always (unlike Stockhouse which is down 25% of the time). This new and alternate BB should be up and running in a couple weeks, just sorting it out. Thought I'd let the users of this BB know as an alternate BB would solve almost every issue Stockhouse faces and allow a place to post when this one is down.

Best Regards, Azures
