Could this short term trading strategy cause the volatility?

Suppose I have 10,000 shares. I put in sell orders after an up tick, say $50 and dump them all. In a matter of hours, esp. if others are doing this as well, this drives down the SP 5-10%. After the SP drops sufficiently I buy back10,000 shares and pocket the difference. I'm wondering if the relatively low volumes of CXR makes a strategy like this easier to pull off?  And is CXR in the "sweet spot" for this kind of day-trading to be profitable?

As long as the traders outnumber the fundamental investors, this will trade according to the charts since traders 'create' the charts by selling (short) when it rises too fast and selling begets more selling until over sold. Those using stop losses are feeding this behaviour. very soon it will reverse IMO if the general market is supportive.

exactly. needs big volume to make a meaningful move (by long term investor), the traders will follow the trend. when stock is weak it's easier to manipulate. And the traders have this one. selloff looks way overdone but no one is stepping in yet in a meaningful way

unfortunately it hit my stop loss this am ($46). now the price is having trouble breaching that price. $46 now resistance perhaps? if it ends higher than $46 i will obv regret, but i had to go w the gut when the chart was telling me to sell

An example of why you don't want to feed the bears. If MT is on BNN on Ednesday, expect retail to drive up the volume and hence SP. Right now it is traders fighting traders.

this is why i still have calls. lol. you never know. i have more $ in calls than puts but my calls r down quite a bit atm. hoping to make some pp both ways. sell the puts if it drops, and sell the calls if it rips. win win. i hope! ;)

So basically you are playing the volatility and suggesting to others to sell to help out your position. Great guy! And here we are with SP rising on next to no volume? I thought you said it would keep dropping until someone came in and started buying with huge volume (and I think that was over $1 ago). I just hope those you were trying to scare into buying their shares sub $45 didn't listen.  ...more

i wasnt trying to scare anyone into selling. I simply posted my observations. How do I benefit from people selling? im not short and im not looking for cheap shares to cover lol overall i want this to go up as im still long calls but the chart signalled this drop, thats all i was saying. and as we stand now, its moving up. so we'll see where it ends the day as i think that will be more ...more

Comment by Money10179 on Dec 07, 2015 4:50pm
yes I must be a moron for thinking the other day that today this would drop. i didn't say it was going to drop forever either but it's def testing support levels and trending downward. And depending how the overall market behaves tomorrow, this may go lower still before going back up. Daily chart is being tested. i will certainly buy again but it's a question of when... and for f sakes ...more

It's amazing that for weeks, you were monitoring this board, but had no inclination to join. But as soon as you joined , you have been an expert firing 100's of posts. I have sources within SH, and that is how I know all your aliases, keep trying to distort the truth and talking to yourself.
Comment by Money10179 on Dec 07, 2015 5:41pm
had to respond to this because it's laughable. you are F O S my friend. there are absolutely NO other aliases and you can timestamp that! I wish SH would chime in here!  you have no sources that is complete bs and makes you sound like even more a buffoon.
Comment by Pj1958 on Dec 07, 2015 5:47pm
