RE: Long time between posts...Question
RE: Long time between posts...QuestionThe main environmental/park issue for the mine is the fact it lies upstream of the South Nahanni River. Parks Canada is attempting to significantly expand the Nahanni National Park Reserve to protect the habitat of the existing Reserve. Effluent from the mine flowing downriver appears to be a (the?) major concern with the mine.
Any recommendations coming out of the the Nahanni Expansion Working Group (Parks Canada + Dehcho) will be reviewed by, and needs approval from the Government of Canada.
The mine could be doable in this region within all this, it is just going to be a struggle, with the primary opponent being Parks Canada. They are educated, resourceful and passionate.
Have a gander through the following links, There is not much question about the beauty or the remoteness of this region. (I mean, you have to get flown in to take a week long paddle down the river for crying out loud!)

I would like to think a mine of this magnitude, with world need for zinc and silver, and with the mine plant largely already in place, means it can and should happen. I remain long in CZN. My main concern continues to be CZN + their consultants ability to take on Parks Canada. I haven't been too impressed so far with CZN in reading transcripts of presentations on the mine and its impact. Parks Canada are a formidable group, and should not be underestimated.
