9/11

On the top floors of the North Tower (Floors 101-105) contained the offices of the Investment Company, Cantor Fitzgerald, a well respected and successful company.  Their offices were 2-6 floors above where the plane hit and all those who were in the office that day (658) went to their deaths in a ball of fire and smoke.

In some ways we are all "living on the edge" never knowing whether our next breath will be our last or not.  I actually knew two people who worked for C-F.  One of them was at his office that fateful day and the other had stopped as usual at a coffee shop on the way to the office and had gotten into a discussion with someone from another firm and was later than usual getting to work and so he wasn't in his office when the plane struck.  Howard Lutnick, the CEO, wasn't in the office as he was dropping off his son at Kindergarten but his brother Gary was in the office and died.

Not sure why I am posting this but this day always makes me pause for reflection about what is really important in life.

Holy moly. No offence but that's quite the crock if you think you are being a noble person and improving people's lives by posting on Stockhouse. Sounds a lot like the old Fantome. Is that you?

9/11 is always sobering but especially so when you think of it in these terms.  It has often been observed brothers or all the young men of one town were killed off at one fell swoop in WWI before protocols were developed to limit the possibility.  But that pales in comparison to 658 lost from one company in a single attack.  Can you imagine Mr. Lutnick's state of shock at ...more
