power rankings

Just like the major sports, I like to do an occasional "midstream power rankings". After the successful KEY investor day, here's my latest:

1 - PPL,  2-TRP,  3-KEY,  4-ENB.

Of course, my personal rankings don;t affect doing any selling as we have no plans to sell any midstreamers in the next 3-5 years. This is a tad different than the rest of our holdings that we never plan to sell (until our estate gets settled). I think with all the green cr*p, we will need to monitor a bit in the coming years.

ENB is last because of the terrible Mainline contract decision and the ongoing line 5 hassles. It also always seems to have a big target on its back.

Ciao

SargeX, Your "power ranking" is fair, except I would put ALA before KEY. I also believe that PPL may do better than ENB on the long run. Anyway that's my 5c worth.

I should add that while I held KEY a long time ago, I never had TRP, so I cannot say anything about that one. I do have ENB(both commons and preferreds) as well as PPL(again commons and preferreds), which keep me off the streets and out of pool halls, and keeps CRA happy, thank you.

I am not sure what is fair about arbitrary rankings with no explanation except that Sarge does qualify his rankings with the statement that they are personal rankings.  I am also not sure why ALA should come before KEY when ALA is not even on the list.   That being said it appears that the power ranking may coincide with YTD share price performance as the list seems to be ranked ...more

Hey Quint PPL is #1 because they made an unbelievable deal with KKR. Whne I heard the news, I was thinking it was almost too good to be true. TRP is #2 as Coastlink is getting closer to completion. KEY is #3 because KAPS is getting cloer to completion and most of the funding issues have now been taken care of. ENB is #4 becuase they got hosed on the Mainline contracts and Line 5 is going to be ...more

Hey Sarge,  thanks for a more detailed explanation of your personal power rankings.  It certainly looks like ENB got hosed on mainline contracts although I don't think they are quite settled yet so we'll see what comes of it in the end. Even though Line 5 is an on going issue I don't think it has been in a more secure position since I have owned ENB since I don't think ...more

Hey btm I should have been a bit clearer on my power rankings being just for the midstreameres we own. As an aside, we did own a full position in ALA from Aug, 2010 to Nov 2020.and made a meager $7.8k including dividends. It's actually the most disappointing stock we've ever owned. We initially bought it as a midstreamer with great Canadian assets which all changed when ALA bit off more ...more

Sarge, I was in the same boat as you and many others. Old Ala management were a  bunch of slim balls ! Luckily, I broke even and move on to PPL and never look back. Low Ready ! Stocktalk

Well SargeX, the quality of executives may be the reason that I was able to buy ALA @$15/share. Apart from that, a number of "analysts" seem to think that ALA may be undervalued and it may be go as high as $34-$35. You and I both know that their forecats are not all that reliable, but I am still not complaining the way ALA is progressing. As you know IPL also lacked foresight when ...more

Hey btm I definitely agree with you on old ALA management especially the old CEO, Harris. He always just seemed to want to grow for the sake of growing. Terrbile deals in California and then the WGL fiasco. Cornhole was also just as bad letting those deals go ahead. I must say that I have been really impressed with Crawford, the new CEO. He has done an amazing job. I would actually never own ...more

Enbridges problem seems to be line 5 and their lawyers seem to being doing very little except padding the bill. It's amazing that Trump lawyers manage to get to the courts 65 times in three months. Of course they lost virtually all the cases but imagine what they could have accomplished if they actually had a case.GLTA

As a footnote SargeX, did you notice who KKR's CEO is? General Petreaus( not sure if I spelled his name all right). He has connection and a pipeline to information, like nobody else, as he was the Director of the CIA before.
