Barrick is satisfied with its current areas of operation in North and South
America, Australia, East Africa, and now Russia. But it's also intrigued by
developments elsewhere, he said.
"We've obviously watched with great interest what Mr. Friedland is doing in
Mongolia," Wilkins said, referring to Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN.T) and its
chairman, Robert Friedland. He declined to say if talks on any projects or
investments were underway with Ivanhoe, which continues to drill the Oyu Tolgoi
copper/gold deposit in Mongolia.
Wilkins also singled out China for mention, calling it a "very resource-rich
country" that Barrick is closely monitoring.
