A`dynasty'   Well Karls dad  started the company   does Karl have a Son?/ This would confirm my suspicion that Karls interests are not 100% aligned with most shareholders 1-3 year or less time horizon.  He does not mind haveing far too much property than can be drilled in any reasonable time   It is for his successor.
