The Breaking Spitball…A Real Curve Maybe the future of EV manufacturing is not e-axles but e-wheels? According to Monroe and Associates Tesla is working on a cast unibody design where they just plug parts into it. Maybe e-wheels would be more energy efficient? Smaller motors driving individual wheels instead of geared axles. They would likely be more efficient in many ways and maybe require less materials to produce. In Eric Hustedt's interview in recent past he made some reference to smaller more responsive low voltage drive motors, is what got me to thinking.
Also, I've often puzzled over how EVs will be produced to equal the performance we enjoy today of AWD ICE vehicles. In my mind the solution is to have two or four small motors in each vehicle. One in each wheel perhaps controlled by one central CD commanding each motor how to behave if that's technically possible.
I may be completely OTL with this idea but aren't we really just talking about how to use "minimum energy for maximum results"?
I'm not a techie, so I invite anyone to add some colour to this concept.
