China's Growing Presence in Colombia

China's Growing Presence in ColombiaThis is a long but very detailed article on China's ties with Colombia and Petro. It goes into depth in each industry China has/is investing in. They mention two ports. Kelvin are you familiar with these ports mentioned, and if so are they comparable to Bahia?  China has interests in ports in Cuba and Chinese Naval warships have been docking there well as as other countries where they own or have majority control over the port.

The large Chinese Gold company mentioned, Zijin Mining has a very large mine in Colombia, I have not seen 2023 guidance but betting with their recent expansion and high grades, they will be in the ball park of 9k tons of gold produced at this mine this year. However, last week, terrorist attacked the mine and killed two and wounded many others. Causing it to shut down. I can imagine that Petro's military is now there in strength.

This Statement really caught my eye under the section on Petroleum.
"The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) also entered Colombia in July 2012 with the $15.1 billion acquisition of the Canadian petroleum firm Nexxen."

At the time, this was China's biggest foreign acquisition ever and it appears many of its assets were outside of Colombia, in Canada and elsewhere. CNOOC still shows operations and an office in Colombia but little is said about their oil production. I wonder how much over market cap they paid, anyone recall this transaction? I know is was hotly contested in Canada on allowing it to be completed.

Anyway, here is a long but interesting fairly recent read for anyone heavily invested in FEC or just interest how they are taking over South America as well as Central American, even more so. I think no country is moving as fast towards China as Nicaragua who is very heavy in high grade very shallow (pit) gold resources, always a Chinese favorite.
