Why did silver go to 50 in 1980

and then drop to $6 a few years later? And again in 2012. Its not industrial demand. Its the billionaire manipilators (Hunts 1980 Sprott, banks etc today) and the hoards of mindless sheeple who line up down the block outside the bullion dealer to buy 1 oz coins at a 50% premium. I know because i was one of then in 1980....but never again. Most silver investors today werent around in 1980 but i can tell you it was exactly the same psychology then as now (and 2012 for that matter). Fear of inflation, Fear of ecomomic collapse on steroids. Everyehere people were talking of moving to a farm to survive the coming economic calamity ...but it never hsppened did it. 40 years later society has made increadible progress. I didnt buy much at time at that price but a freind of mine borrowed a lot to buy in on the insanity. A few years later it fell to $6 And he spent 15 years of his life working trying to pay off the loan. Good thing he wasnt suicidal or we would have lost him. Its a paranoid bs fear trade. And with the world leaving pandemic behind there will be prosperity and employment once again and the fear trade will go up in a puff of smoke. And all that will be left once again is the industrial demand. A demand that can shrink as solar panel makers are are learning to use less and less silver and aluminum is an excellent alternative for all kinds of silver related applications and its dirt cheap in comparison. Silver back to $15 in a couple of years

Feel free to store your wealth in paper.  Personally, I prefer God's money to intrinsically worthless fiat.  Let's see what is left standing after the Great Reset.  One of two things will happen: 1)  The self-appointed powers of the universe will migrate everyone onto a central bank digital currency whereby their control over the population is cemented and precious ...more

Can anyone explain to me what "reset" is supposed to mean?? Ive been hearing that for years now from all kinds of doomsdsyers. What is there to reset? Either you honor your debts or you dont. Switching to a digital currency wont change anything. The debt will still be there. (And you cant erase all debt ..there will be a lot of very angry creditors all over the world who wont take it ...more

The Russians are quietly playing this hand the best of all the industrial worlds. Their debt-to-GDP ratio is among the lowest in the G20 AND they have quite a large gold reserve. Even China's debt-to-GDP is getting up there. At its highest in history and rising.... On a personal level, yeah it's one thing to have bars/coins of silver and gold, but they're not friendly for everyday ...more

The "reset" is what will occur in order to replace the current monetary paradigm we have dealt with over the last 50 years.  In 1971, Nixon severed the remaining link the populace had to the Constitutional (i.e. real) US dollar and we were left with fully fiat Federal Reserve Notes. The problem with the FRN is that they have been inflated to the point where only 1% of the original ...more

Good explanation. But i think the problem lies in that most of the wotld's wealth resides in the US and Europe. Its ok when argentina, mexico, etc default on thier debt and the imf extends or forgives loans. These are small players and the big players manage them to keep stability in the world. Now we have the big players facing the currency crisis. No one to come to thier rescue....very ...more

Reply to Stratochief.  Back in the 1980's I worked for a major international refiner. I saw the printouts flying through with Hunt Brothers trying to corner the market and trading through a bank in Nicaragua. Just manipulation by a greedy group. For those dreaming of those high flying prices good luck. Totally agree with your opinion and those expecting silver to hit triple digits Good ...more
