Zambia Mopani CNMC

Kitco says it remains unclear where CNMC & Ivanhoe would get the money to buy Glencore out of the Mopani copper mine that they shut down. Link to News

Gord, I have never heard that Ivn is looking at that project and I’m not sure it fits with the direction of the company.  Your link doesn’t work.

It is not neccessarily Ivanhoe that initiated the interest in Mopani. Zambia has a very good relationship with CNMC and a poor relationship with Glencore. CNMC has a better relationship with the Zambians than what Glencore developed. https://www.cnmc.com.cn/detailen.jsp?article_millseconds=1319198645250&column_no=0118 https://www.zccm-ih.com.zm/investments/mining-assets/cnmc-luanshya-copper-mines-plc/ https://www.miningnewszambia.com/ivanhoe-chinas-cnmc-partnership-set-to-benefit-zambia-africa/

Why would IVN have any interest in Mopani?   Mopani was a jewel in 1965 when I worked there, it's been producing for 60+ years.

Ivanhoe is not into Zambia yet except maybe for part of Kipushi. Zambia has a significant partion of the world's copper & cobalt resources. Maybe some exploration will reveal more. Mopani has resources & processing plants. It may be Zambia & CNMC who are wooing Ivanhoe. https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-are-the-major-natural-resources-of-zambia.html click here
