This is a great description.  Think of it this way, The ishares gold fund tracks the TSX global gold index.  So now ishares will need to start a purchase into LSG.  Their fund is rouglhy $600M, so even a 1% weight would mean roughly 6 millions hares to be bought.  I know that BMO, TD etc usually have their gold funds linked as well with the SP index............
