RE:Special Dividend So browsing through Scotiabank's earnings calendar section (which is not the most accurate thing in the world by any stretch), I noticed MKP is listed as a split today, which is obviously a reference to the special dividend.
They gave us new maths that might be more accurate for your share count as it might be the official calculation?
1.052:1
My current share count is 1474 X 1.052 = 1550.648
My old math worked out to 1548.274 based on the 19.25 guess
The 2 share difference isn't much, but backtesting it
1550.648 - 1474 = 76.648 (shares gained)
1474 X .97 = 1429.78 (special dividend entitlement)
1429.78 / 76.648 = 18.65 (market weighted average trading price)
This seems odd because it hasn't traded that low since end of February which is not in the 5 days preceding the Record Date of tomorrow, unless it's already calculated today's finish already which will swing the weighting, that seems like a sizeable swing, but that number wouldn't likely have been released by the company yet. I'm skeptical on what Scotia gives as maths as I've seen them inaccurate many times, but the number I was first using was a visual estimation anyway so it wasn't fully accurate either.
Doesn't matter all that much as both numbers work out pretty close to similar on my count, we shall see what the official new total shares I have in a few days, sometimes new shares take longer to appear in your account than the regular dividend even tho both are suppose to payout on the same day.
