Peru -100 districts in state of emergency due to heavy rains On 27 February, the Government of Peru declared a 60-day state of emergency in 100 districts across 17 out of the 24 departments due to the severe impact of heavy rains. The rains, which have persisted since the beginning of the year, have resulted in overflows, landslides and floods, damaging or destroying over 2,000 houses and affecting some 40,000 people, according to official figures. According to risk assessments conducted by the National Centre for Disaster Risk Estimation, Prevention and Reduction (CENEPRED), potential flooding in the coming days and weeks may affect more than 900,000 people across 14 departments."
