RE: Foes threaten to seek Alaska mining tax

RE: Foes threaten to seek Alaska mining taxthis is really nuts. if Pebble goes ahead those 12,500 jobs in the fishery etc will still be there. the groups that are crying pay very little tax and contribute little to the state coffers compared to a mining operation. secondary industry for a mine operation in itself is significant. if this project is stopped or over taxed mining and exploration in Alaska will take a huge hit that will cost the state billions over the next 20 years. i sure wouldn't waste $$$$ in a state that wouldn't allow me to exploit a find after I spent millions. those trying to turn this into a political football could do to alaska what the NDP did to BC in the 70's & 80's. It took over 20 years to recover and cost millions if not billions in lost exploration & mining revenue. It sounds like they want to turn Alaska into a Park.
