RE: Re: Court RulingIf I recall, Pogo had all kinds of problems getting started also. They had construction well underway at the end. When the bone head special interest groups tried to cap it at the last minute TeckCominco just shut it down and fired everyone. Government of the time was not prepared to lose 400-500 jobs including the secondaries. Can you imagine what a project this size would do for the Alaska economy. If mining today had the environmental disregard they had 20 years ago I wouldn't support it either but thats not the case. Mining has become the most environmentally responsible of all the industries and far far ahead of the forest related industries for example. Clear cutting on the coast leaves huge mountain side areas open to erosion which in turn contaminates streams and lakes, some can never recover. Not to mention the crap the pulp and paper mills dump into our water and air. Something you would never see in the mining industry now days.
Its time someone called these special interest groups on there stupidity.
In any event the timing is good. Commodities are high and the US economy in general is tanking. Can you imagine anyone in power turning down an opertunity to provide 1500 new full time jobs (well paying)and several thousand secondaries because of any special interest group. If they did allow this project to get capped exploration would come to an end in Alaska and several mines that are now on the books would also end. Besides that you have companies here that have a history (last 20 years) of supporting local communities.
If this thing has the goods it is not logical for it not to become a mine.
