08:01 AM EDT, 05/26/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Bus and coach manufacturer NFI Group Inc. (NFI.TO) said Wednesday that the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority exercised options to buy another 100 transit buses from the Canadian company's U.S. subsidiary New Flyer of America Inc.

The order for the additional 40-foot Xcelsior heavy-duty buses is being exercised from New Flyer's backlog in the third of a five-year contract.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is the sixth-largest bus agency in the U.S., serving the D.C. area, Maryland and Virginia. NFI has delivered over 1,800 buses to the agency since 1995.
