Budget Analysis

A lot of details about investment tax credits in the Budget. Electricity demand expected to increase dramatically in Canada. Improvements in interprovincial, grid systems are being contemplated. The Atlantic Loop for example.

Key to Northland on the East coast. Maybe making hydrogen at sea would qualify and something Northland will consider. Simply the Federal Govt's mention of offshore wind is important to Northland and others. Policies/priority project status and money follow. Maybe also a 40% tax credit potential.

  • Create new investments in science-based activities to help capitalize on Canada's offshore wind potential, particularly off the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Atlantic Loop

The federal government is committed to advancing the Atlantic Loop—a series of interprovincial transmission lines that will provide clean electricity among Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia—and is currently negotiating with provinces and utilities to identify a clear path to deliver the project by 2030.

The federal government has said Canada needs to see investments of $125 billion to $140 billion annually until 2050 to help meet its net-zero ambitions. A lot of money. And who will come up with that? Have fun negotiating with the provinces about building new grid systems, allowing for more renewable energy to flow reliably. Energy falls under provincial jursidiction.
