The invasion . . .

"Overall we would rate this week’s data as modestly positive for energy prices. The main focus of the markets remains, what will happen across Europe if Russia invades Ukraine. The invasion, if it does occur, is likely to commence in the next week or so when the ground is firm enough for tanks and other heavy weapons to maneuver."

I maintain Putin will NOT, repeat NOT invade Ukraine. This is all posturing, he has absolutely ZERO to gain, and a whole lotta nightmare if he does, pure and simple. Politics 101, create a war to distract. Putin is embarrassed from the uprising in his ally Kazakhstan so needs to look strong, and Biden with gas prices, inflation and covid. This BS war talk works for both of them to distract the ...more

It would seem that you have the inside track about what goes on inside Putin's head.

Russia has been destabilizing countries for years. Uk EU and the US are only the more recent. The US did it to them with Gorbachov and they have been doing it back since the 80's. Cyber attacks and installing Russia backed candidates is the perfect psy op. Putin was the head of the KGB before it fell and probably one of the smartest world leaders. The US needs to attack militarily and then ...more

Hopefully all this doesn't escalate much further and result in war. If it does, making a buck may end up being the furthest thing from our mind. And yes I would agree............Putin likely is one of the more intelligent world leaders. He certainly is one of the more experienced.

"Putin likely is one of the more intelligent world leaders." precisely why he will NOT invade Ukraine. It is a lose, lose for him on so many levels and he understands that. Body bags sent back to Moscow will have the people turn against him. If he f**ks things up  and costs money for the oligarchs, which it would, they will send him up the river to a siberian gulag. He wants to ...more

Being where the puck was headed was waiting for it after oil temporary crashed to zero btw.

Hey, I could very well be wrong. but I just don't see the gain for Putin to actually invade, just bad losses. He is too crafty to make such a egregious error. He will succeed in getting most of what he actually wants by go right up to the waters edge but not jumping in.
Comment by alvarez2 on Feb 05, 2022 8:17pm
To be honest, it's not so much Putin I worry about.............he is intelligent.  I'm more concerned about the lack of brain power amongst our Western leaders...............they aren't.
Comment by Sugaree on Feb 05, 2022 8:31pm
what do they have to do with him invading, his choice not theirs. Massive bluff by him.

Oil is going to go through the roof Russian forces at 70% of level needed for full Ukraine invasion, U.S. officials say Humeyra Pamuk   WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Russia has in place about 70% of the combat power it believes it would need for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and is sending more battalion tactical groups to the border with its neighbor ...more

The click bait never stops. I am searching real hard to find anything good for Putin to attack Ukraine, I just keep coming up donuts. Nothing, nada, zilch. But got handfulls of really bad outcomes for him if he did though. I realize i appear to be the contrarian here, but i was also when i bought a tonne of Nuvista at 33 cents in March 2020 after Jonathon spoke on BNN.
Comment by alvarez2 on Feb 06, 2022 8:37pm
There needs to be a compromise..............Something I hope that the western leaders (  particularly the US ) can understand or respect. Ukraine, which at one time, belonged to the former Soviet Union, Russia, shares a massive border with Russia just like Canada or Mexico shares with the US. Suppose one day there was a revolution in our country and for one reason or the other we were no ...more

Putin has invaded Georgia and Ukraine, and poisoned and jailed political adversaries, don't think i will be changing my mind on him anytime soon. can we please get this board back to oil and gas and nuvista, and not politics, i think most here would apprciate it. i will drop it if you will.

Skip forward to the 19:40 mark........the deal James Baker made with Gorbachev..........seeing as how education isn't your thing.

Who, me from my comment? Without the posters quote, not sure whom you are referring.
Comment by alvarez2 on Feb 05, 2022 7:27pm
The only one that knows what Vladimir Putin's intentions are is Vladimir Putin.........the rest is noise. God forbid this escalates and turns into something much bigger. Russia vs Nato is bad enough let alone throwing Russia's new partner to the south into the mix. Money won't mean sweet f'k all if that happen.
