I believe you are 100% correct ... for transition fuel NatGas and for oil short to mid term by my clock! Getting off fossil fuels is and will be a major challenge and there is money to be made in the interim!
Will the world be forced through increasing extreme weather events to escalate efforts off fossil fuels? YES - out here in BC we have experienced unprecedented floods, landslides from rain (8 houses uninhabitable in my large neighborhood alone), and wildfires for weeks on end with so much choking smoke it is too dangerous to go for a walk - Folks ... this is much more than Q-anon at work ;-)
Is it wise to prepare for more to come and should we be working towards lowering greenhouse gasses - Yes!
Will the party end miserably for oil at some stage, of course it will !
Is the Guardian newspaper trying to talk the market down - lol !

I don't think it will end miserably, that would suggest a sudden end nobody saw coming. We can see clearly oil and gas will be around forever, just a little less each year and thus will be gradual.
