RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Some Advice for the Golden GollumIn point of fact, the worst blow to freedom in the last one thousand years was the Norman conquest of England.  Prior to that time, Anglo-Saxon tribal law created a simple and honest form of democracy.  It called for popular elections of leaders on a regular basis and allowed them no special benefits.  It put no one above the law, no one.  And that extended to leaders of alliances among tribes. 

Such a system is quite unlike our modern form of democracy in which many in the privileged classes are seemingly quite above the law, and are recipients of massive benefits at a big social and economic cost.
