There are a number of things at play today.
The market sold off today and that gave short sellers an opportunity to sell which is something they needed to do to recoup losses they suffered recently.
Later in the afternoon when the news of a PP was released retail investors did a jerk knee panic reaction giving short sellers an opportunity to assist in driving the price down even farther.
Short sellers had a considerable amount of oustanding shares that were out of the money and would have been looking for any oppportunity to drive the price down and they got that today in spades.
They have to cover now and I expect that to happen very soon, like almost immediately - likely tomorrow.
