Clarification please... I hope that if (and when) the Quebec Government recieves their fracking report this fall they DO NOT base any of their future decisions on whether to allow or block fracking based on public polls on the subject. If the government-ordered report states that fracking can be done safely then it should be allowed, no matter how much the environmentalists whine or how much public opposition there is. The process of fracking should not have to stand up to scientific scrutiny AND public sentiment....science should carry the day. If the majority of people oppose it, it is the job of the Quebec Government to educate the public why something "controversial" is being implemented. Not all decisions can be popular with the majority.
Pauline Marois is not consistent when it comes to listening to the people of Quebec. It is my belief she will deny gas companies the opportunity to frack because public opinion polls will have less than 50% support.....and yet....she seems to embrace the MINORITY OPINION of those 30% who share her dream of separation. On the one hand she says to those who support fracking: "We must listen to the people" but when 70% of "the people" oppose separation she continues to spend time and provincial resources promoting her dream. Why does fracking have to be backed up by science AND public opinion to move forward and yet the issue of separation needs neither science or the majority of public opinion to garner so much of her attention....it seems as though she has very selective hearing when it comes to listening to "the people".
Did anyone see the latest Premier Marois separation propaganda infomercial? It was pretty funny. She is talking about separation and how it would be so good because if Quebec separates they wouldn't have to share the future wealth they will receive by.....SELLING THEIR OIL !!! So...let me get this straight....If Quebec separates they get all the revenue from the oil sector for themselves and they wouldn't be obligated to share a dime of that profit with any other provinces.....but in the meantime.....Quebec wants all the oil producing provinces to share their wealth with Quebec through transfer payments!! No wonder there are so many Canadians that think and say negative things about Quebec. How do you embrace a province that on one hand says "keep paying us on a regular basis with your riches...but we hope to separate one day so we don't have to share our riches with you." Wow....talk about wanting to bite the hand that feeds you !! I don't know if separatists believe in God, but it sure seems that they are friends with Judas.
Remember...for every dollar that Quebec contributes in transfer payments to the rest of Canada, they draw out $2.30. Why doesn't the rest of Canada vote on whether to kick Quebec out of Canada and make them independent....I bet this would be a much better (and easier) route for Pauline Marois in attaining her dream...don't try to sell your idea of separation to Quebeccers...let the rest of Canada vote on getting rid of Quebec....finally there would be some common ground....sounds like a win / win situation for everyone.
For the Quebeccers that don't want to separate...please take my comments with a grain of salt. I feel bad for you that your own Premier caters to her little minority than the common sense of the majority. If you are unhappy, you must let your voice be heard....don't suffer in silence.
