The culprit who started a rumour clearly committed a crime for personal gains and gets away for nothing while if anyone acted on it suffers a financial loss. Would you come off your high horse, and be so casual to brush it off (as tough luck dummies you got duped!). Even smart people can make mistakes and trust the wrong source of information once in a while.
You have been pounding your chest here about "do you're DDs". What if your DDs tripped on some false information and you acted accordingly? Are you going to be so forgiving now that you're the victim?
